A Song of Passion and Flame

Bird Autism

These images were made from March to May 2025, when I was still using a batch generator tool, in the days before I switched to Chat GPT (making one image at a time) and before I had found my "voice" with my Elysian Enchanted Realism style and was still doing more painterly (and sometimes surrealistic) art.

The story behind this series is that when I was a teenager, I stopped a group of boys from aiming at pigeons with slingshots, and in my thirties when I lived in Seattle a bunch of crows began following me around, and I've had various bird omens throughout my life including (but not limited to)
  • the raven that flew into Long Beach Airport while I was waiting to board a flight to leave my ex,
  • the hawk family that moved into my backyard the week before my cat Ham passed on and left a week after his death,
  • and the bluejay pair that moved into my backyard the day after I proposed to Andy in March (yes, that soon).

Also, when I was a kid I was really into reading about birds, and for my twenties and early thirties I was a member of the Audobon Society and regularly went on bird-watching hikes.

So birds have always been one of my hyperfixations and something of spiritual significance to me, and after the bluejay arrival in March 2025 I made some of these to celebrate, then did a bunch more as a form of self-soothing and it was also my first major dive into the adoptables market on DeviantArt, which didn't go so well for various reasons. I named this series "Little Songs" on DA.

While I've moved on from this style, this is very close to the paintings I used to do by hand back before Ehlers-Danlos took my ability to paint away, and I'm proud to show a little piece of my inner world to you.
