Shams
In January 2020 just before the pandemic started, Fin moved to the Midwest to live with one of his two best friends, who had several cats; Shams chose Fin as His Special Person right away and they were practically inseparable until Shams passed on in September 2025 at the age of 16. He was extremely well-spoiled and well-loved, Fin's four-legged son; Andy "met" Shams via video chat and loved him too.
These are our tributes to him, in life and after death, eternally holding a place in our hearts.

Long ago, when the forests still whispered in a tongue only the stars could understand, there lived a tabby cat with eyes brighter than emerald fire. His name was Shams, and he was born not of blood and fur, but of moonlight, crystal, and the breath of the Ancients.
He came into being at the heart of the Glimmergrove, curled in a bed of silver moss, surrounded by rune-bound crystals that pulsed with pure light. Some say he was the last wish of a dying fae queen. Others say he wandered down from the stars, his collar already glowing with ancient knotwork.
Shams walked without sound, but his presence was felt, warmth in winter, calm in chaos, clarity in confusion. Birds would stop singing when he passed… not in fear, but in reverence. And if you were truly lost, not in direction, but in heart, he would find you.
He could not speak, and yet he understood. His purr could ease pain. His gaze could see into a soul and say, “You are still worthy. You are still loved.”
And so they called him:
The Crystal-Eyed Watcher.
The Purr That Stills Storms.
The Familiar of All That Matters.
But he chose only one to walk beside.

In Shams's final days, after his gabapentin and Mirataz, he would drift into this blissed-out, dreamy state of purrs; one day after his drugs I called him a stoner and asked him if he wanted to listen to Pink Floyd with me—and that’s how this picture was born. It was gallows humor, yes, but also a love letter: to his light, his weird magic, and to the joy he gave me even as I braced myself for loss.
