A Song of Passion and Flame

The Art of Absolutely Nothing

Picture
In the shade of the tallest oak in the meadow, a fox named Lark mastered a skill that few in the animal kingdom had truly perfected, doing absolutely nothing.

While the squirrels dashed around like caffeinated acrobats and the birds engaged in heated debates about worm ownership, Lark simply lay back, paws tucked behind his head, eyes half-lidded in the warm golden sunlight.

“Shouldn’t you be hunting?” asked a busy badger, hauling an armful of roots past him.

“Already caught lunch,” Lark replied without opening his eyes. “It’s called sunbeams. Very filling.”

The breeze ruffled his fur as a cloud drifted lazily overhead. He considered following it with his gaze… but that would have required movement, and movement was very much against the rules of today’s grand plan.

By the time the meadow slipped into twilight, Lark had achieved something remarkable: a whole day without a single productive thought. And for him, that was a triumph worth napping over.
